Christmas Crack

This salty, sweet, gooey confection is so addicting, there’s no better name than CRACK. It might be one of my favorite things about the holidays. Crack is a must at every party or event during Christmas. My grandma shared this recipe several years ago, and I’ve been an addict ever since…

Ingredients
Scale
- 40 saltine crackers (about 1 1/2 sleeves)
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 12 oz chocolate chips
- 1 c nuts or other topping (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Line a 16X11″ cookie sheet with foil. Then line the foil with saltine crackers, making sure you leave as little space as possible.
If they don’t fit perfectly, fill in gaps with broken pieces.
- In a medium sauce pan, bring the butter and brown sugar to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and stir for 3 minutes.
- Pour the hot mixture over the saltines and spread evenly, ensuring every cracker is covered. Bake 5 minutes.
- Remove from oven and top with chocolate chips. Spread evenly with an offset spatula. Make sure every cracker is covered.
If your crackers move during this process, just use your spatula to put them back in a flat layer.
- Top with your preferred topping, or leave plain.
I have used pistachio, pecans and walnuts. Any topping of your choice is fine!
- Refrigerate over night or a few hours in the freezer. Once the crack is set, remove foil and break into bite size pieces.
